This blog is a review of the Kudd.ly blanket. It was a gifted item. As always all the thoughts and opinions contained in this blog are my own. I would never promote something I genuinely don’t love.
Hey guys! How are you getting through January? Hang in there we are almost into February. Today I’m reviewing for you the Kudd.ly weighted blanket. I have, for some time, been thinking about trying out a weighted blanket. Firstly I had read about the benefits of weighted blankets for anxiety and depression. As you all know I am very open about my issues and while my depression is currently well controlled sometimes my anxiety goes through the roof. You may also have heard me talk about my eldest son. Also known as the one that does not sleep.
Big little has never slept. I mostly make a joke of it that the last time I had a good sleep was sometime in 2012 but I’m honestly knackered. He has trouble going to sleep and trouble staying asleep. I have googled to death how to make a kid sleep. I’ve watched Supernanny and all that. Tips from the health visitor…tried them. I have done it all believe me. Nothing works for this boy. He just hasn’t got the sleep gene. So every night I sit with him until he falls asleep. Some nights this can be over an hour. Then take him back to bed when he wakes up. Until I am asleep and then he gets in my bed. It’s not ideal but it’s the best way I can get some sleep. A friend suggested a weighted blanket may help so I started looking into this.
What is a Kudd.ly blanket? I hear you ask. It is a weighted blanket that can help you relax and sleep better. It can also help with the symptoms of anxiety and stress. It encourages deep pressure simulation (DPS) and scientific research has shown to help with
- Anxiety and depression
- Asperger’s syndrome
- Restless leg syndrome
- Sensory disorders
The Kudd.ly blanket weighs approximately 5kg and is suitable for anyone over 30kg or 6+years.
So my intention was that we would both share the blanket to help with our seperate issues but my son loves it so much he has pinched it. I have tried it out though when I have been feeling overwhelmed or uptight. The feeling I noticed was that it gave me a sense of calm. It really is such a strange feeling. A feeling of being safe and that all is well. It’s hard to describe in words. I imagine it’s how a baby feels in the womb and maybe why babies like to be swaddled when they are newborn.
The first time we tried the Kudd.ly weighted blanket for my son was when we were having a movie night. He loved it and became so relaxed he actually asked to go to bed. He has never ever asked to go to bed! So we went up to bed as per usual. I put the weighted blanket over him with the quilt on top. We had the usual shenanigans of non stop talking but there was hardly any wriggling or fidgeting and he actually fell asleep within 20 minutes. That is nothing short of a miracle. I worried it would be a one off but every night since he has fallen asleep much more quickly and without all the usual wriggling that tends to precede sleep. I have finally found something that works for him! I haven’t quite cracked keeping him asleep yet. The blanket does seem to keep him asleep better but when he turns over in sleep and the blanket comes off he wakes up. He was waking up anyway so I just need to try and figure out a way of keeping it on him now. Super glue anyone?
Some of the other things I love about the blanket is the colours. You can have blue or grey. We got the blue one and it’s gorgeous. It goes with the decor in our living room too! When you open the packaging you will be amazed at just how soft it is. I can’t stop stroking it! It’s also washable which is a bonus with children.
I can highly recommend the Kudd.ly weighted blanket for stress and anxiety to help promote feelings of calm and well-being. It has helped my son to relax more so that he can get to sleep more easily and if you have a child with issues sleeping I would definitely give the weighted blanket a try.
I’ll let you in on a secret. I’ve nabbed the blanket while I write this blog and I’m feeling so relaxed I’m going to have a nap now. No joke.
Happy napping people. Love and peace xxx
