I am only now writing about what we got up to on Mother’s Day because it takes me a while to write up and edit each blog. I’m a bit of a perfectionist. We didn’t go out for lunch. We went for a half day out to our local country park. We had intended taking a full picnic but as I was made a full English breakfast (we all had one) we just took a few snacks.
Pembrey country park is an absolute gem of a place and if you are visiting Carmarthenshire then it’s definitely one to check out.
..’Set inside 500 acres of woodland and alongside eight miles of golden sands, we’ve got everything to provide a perfect family day out, weekend camping break or a relaxing holiday in idyllic surroundings’..
We parked up at a lovely picnic area/barbecue spot where there were many families playing games. A short walk through the woods takes you to the adventure playground. It’s huge. There are actually 2 sections to it! After a good play in the top side we headed over for an ice-cream.
We passed the miniature railway which was not open but it will be opening over the easter holidays. We have been on it before and it’s great fun for the smaller kids. Over toward the mini golf course and into an open space so we could get the boomerang out. It was a bit chillier out in the open so we had a few bites from the snack picnic…before the dog snuck in and pinched the chicken! (Insert expletives here).
We decided a bit of dinosaur hunting was in order. This is a game that was played with my friends son before I had my own. There is a good path for bikes/ pushchairs/ toddlers that’s even and there are lots of smaller paths leading off along the way for more able explorers.
The little little loved the freedom of roaming around and was keen to try the less even ground paths! He is a fearless adventurer that one. Even the dog had a bit of off lead freedom but we have to watch him closely as he is prone to go off solo dinosaur hunting!
Unfortunately, all the dinosaurs had gone out for mother’s Day too so we didn’t get any sightings, we headed back to the adventure playground to enjoy the lower side which was a bit more exciting for the older children. And also for the littlest too!
There are lots of other attractions here which we didn’t get to that day. The ski slope and toboggan, the massive blue flag beach and so many nature walks. I will link you to the site so you can get more in depth information. It really is a gem.
We headed home with full hearts and tired legs (except maybe the toddler, he could have kept going forever). There are many different ways people like to spend mother’s Day and for me this one was just as perfect as the people I spent it with. Naturally there are no photos of me with the children!
Love and peace xx
